The Purpose of Transition To Teaching

Transition to Teaching strives to promote innovation in teacher recruitment, selection, preparation, placement and retention so that high-need schools in high-need districts are staffed with math and science teachers that are highly qualified, willing and committed to serving the student population.

CUIN 6301 - The Teaching Profession
Cr. 3. Practicum analyzing teaching and learning in educational settings; legal and ethical aspects of teaching; and curriculum structure, organization, and management in schools.

SEDE 6340 – Reading in Middle and Secondary Schools
Cr. 3. Methods and materials for reading instruction in the middle and secondary schools. Math or Science Methods

CUIN 6375 – Classroom Management
Cr. 3. Analysis of the sociopsychological dynamics of classroom groups with emphasis on implications of behavior modification, socioemotional, and group process theories of classroom management.

CUIN 6378 – Differentiated Instruction
Cr. 3. Development of understanding and skills for evaluating student progress, student achievement, and instructional effectiveness in the classroom setting. Emphasis on collecting information, former judgments, and making instructional decisions.

EDUC 4324, EDUC 4325 - Student Teaching
Cr. 3. Student teaching for grades four through eight.

EDUC 4314, EDUC 4315 - Student Teaching
Cr. 3. Student teaching for grades eight through 12.

SEDE 6320 – Teaching Mathematics in the Secondary School
Cr. 3. Field-based course that introduces instructional materials, research and teaching, and evaluation techniques for grades seven through 12.

CUIN 6347 – Teaching Math in Grades 7-12
Cr. 3. Critical analysis and implementation of current curriculum, methods, and materials for teaching mathematics in grades 7-12.
