Transition to Teaching is a program seeking candidates who have earned at least a bachelor’s degree in a math or science related field and are interested in retiring from their profession or changing their career.
TTT promotes innovation in teacher recruitment, selection, preparation, placement, and retention so that high-need schools in high-need districts are staffed with Math and Science teachers that are highly qualified, willing, and committed to serving the targeted student population.
Specifics About TTT:
- TTT is a five year, two million dollar federally funded grant awarded in 2006
- Accelerated one year teacher certification program with authentic classroom work and thorough preparation
- Candidates will earn credit hours (12-18) towards a UH Master's degree
- All selected candidates receive a $5,000 tuition scholarship to help with tuition and fees
- Places candidates with practical experiences using Science and Math in those high need subject areas
- Candidates can be teaching Secondary Math/Science in one of our partnered school districts; HISD, Alief ISD, Galena Park ISD, Pasadena ISD, or Spring Branch ISD

Who are potential candidates?
- Individuals who have a somewhat flexible schedule and are able to complete the student teaching (450 hours in 12 months/8-10 hours per week)
- Recent graduates, those planning to retire or who may desire a career change to teaching
What prior experience is needed before beginning the program?
- A degree in a Math or Science related field
- Professional work experience in a Math or Science related field is preferred, but not always required
